Apprenticeships and Cadetships

Apprenticeships and Cadetships

Traineeships and Apprenticeships

Some NSW Government agencies offer apprenticeships and / or traineeships. You will need to apply when they are advertised.

Visit the NSW Department of Education and Communities website for more information.

The apprenticeship program is a critical component of the NSW Government's jobs strategy and its ongoing commitment to training and jobs growth for young people.

With an ageing workforce, developing new skills is essential through these additional 4,000 apprentices, especially in identified trade shortage areas.

The NSW public sector is already the largest employer of apprentices in the State. Apprentices are involved in diverse jobs, including power generation and supply, water supply, transport, education and health infrastructure.

Central to the NSW Governments job strategy is the employment of a further 1,000 new apprentices each year for the next four years, through government funded initiatives.

What's JumpSTART NSW?

JumpSTART NSW is a program designed to help young people take up careers in the public sector. The NSW Government is offering five hundred entry-level cadetships to HSC school leavers every year for the next three years.

The NSW public sector is the largest employer in the state, with workplaces all over the state, and an amazing range of jobs and careers.

So if you're looking for a new path, love a challenge, and want a career that offers great variety, applying for a cadetship is a great way to give your career a JumpSTART.

What's a cadetship?

A cadetship is a way for you to earn while you learn. You'll get paid for the work you do while you develop new skills and learn about the work of the organisation.

Who can apply for a cadetship?

You are eligible to apply for a cadetship if you:

• Have your HSC or a minimum of a Certificate IV qualification

• Are under 25 years at the time of application
