What is Corrective Services NSW?
Corrective Services provides custodial and community-based correctional services as an important element of the NSW criminal justice system. In addition to managing offenders under the jurisdiction of New South Wales courts, the Department manages Commonwealth offenders and provides custodial services on behalf of the Australian Capital Territory.

Why did you become a Casual Correctional Officer?
It offered a challenge. I received excellent training over an 11 week paid training course. It was a great opportunity for me to try something different!
What do you like about the job?
I enjoy the responsibility. I work with a great team of people and get great job satisfaction. I am doing interesting and challenging work every day. There are so many opportunities for employment around the state. The work is well paid and very flexible. There is great variety, no day is the same, I work with a range of different people and experience new situations every day. It’s challenging work and after the minimum 12 month probation period there is the opportunity to be promoted or to go into a specialist area.
What makes a good Correctional Officer?

An average day:
8 hour post –day work, morning shift, rover duties, visitor duties, legals, night work

Go for it! If you enjoy a challenge and are willing to learn – just do it!
